About Us

Alpha Sigma Phi was founded at Yale University in 1845 to unite the standards and principles that three young freshmen sought to preserve through brotherhood. Through its history, the brothers of Alpha Sigma Phi have followed the 5 virtues of the Fraternity: Silence, Charity, Purity, Honor, and Patriotism. Through the virtues, the Fraternity is able to accomplish the goal "to better the man". The open motto of Alpha Sigma Phi is translated as: "The cause is hidden, the results well-known." Stevens Institute of Technology is home to the Alpha Tau chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi, which was originally founded in 1926 as the Gamma chapter of Alpha Kappa Pi. The Alpha Tau chapter started 20 years later after Alpha Kappa Pi's merged with Alpha Sigma Phi in 1946. The Alpha Tau chapter currently has 36 brothers and continues thrive and grow because of the dedication and teamwork of the brotherhood. The ideals and values of Alpha Sigma Phi have been, and continue to be applied at the Alpha Tau chapter.

Persons of all identities are invited to and included in this group. Stevens does not discriminate against any person based on the basis of sex, race , religion, disability, sexual orientation, or gender expression, or any other basis prohibited by law.
