Discover the art and science of camera movement with Garrett Brown, the Oscar-winning inventor of the Steadicam. Hosted by Stevens School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, this talk dives into the ins and outs of dynamic cinematography, the history behind the creation of the Steadicam, and its impact on filmmaking.

With over 120 patents for groundbreaking inventions—including Skycam and the award-winning Zeen mobility device—Brown will also share his invaluable insights on how to succeed in the movie business by blending innovation with artistry.

About at Garrett Brown

Garrett Brown is the visionary inventor of the Steadicam, a revolutionary camera stabilizer that transformed the way movies are made by enabling smooth, fluid shots without traditional dolly tracks. Garrett operated his invention on nearly 100 films including Rocky and The Shining, and the Stradicam has been hailed as one of the two most significant innovations in the history of filmmaking.

Brown’s contributions to the industry have earned him four Oscars, five Emmys, and numerous accolades, including induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. In addition to the Steadicam, he holds over 120 patents for other groundbreaking devices like Skycam, Divecam, and the Zeen mobility device, named one of Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2023.

A celebrated mentor, lecturer and member of the American Society of Cinematographers, Brown continues to inspire filmmakers worldwide.
