Here are April's updates and spotlights!

Recap: Ducks in DC

Over spring recess, Undergraduate and Graduate ducks travelled to Washington, D.C., visiting landmarks such as the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the US Capitol. Joining the group were select students from the STEP program.

The Ducks went on a tour of the Howard University campus and learned about its background. Students even participated in a collaborative community service event with Howard. The group also visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture, where they gained a rich understanding of the history and current culture of African Americans.

Students say they had an amazing experience and would go again. Part of the STEP family, videographer Paul Dhaniram captured the captivating experience alongside photographer Joe Simon.

Spotlight: Study Abroad

Camila Valdez

Berlin, Germany
J-Term 2026

Being immersed in a different culture pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me see new perspectives beyond what I was used to at home.

Steven Aponte

Tokyo, Japan
J-Term 2026

I loved how Tokyo mixes old traditions with modern technology, like seeing a shrine in the middle of a busy city block surrounded by skyscrapers.

Autumn Coleman

Rome, Italy
J-Term 2024

I stayed in Rome for a humanities course, explored historic sites like the Colosseum and Pompeii, and took a day trip to Florence to see the statue of David.
