Quantum theory is now over 100 years old, but it is still full of mysteries. Research on improving our understanding of quantum theory has recently led to the development of new applications -- such as quantum computing and quantum cryptography. In this talk, Dr. Igor Pikovski, Geoffrey S. Inman Junior Professor of Physics, will give a brief overview of what it is that makes quantum theory unique, and how these features enable future quantum technologies.

Dr. Igor Pikovski works with a theoretical research group that studies quantum phenomena, quantum foundations, and quantum information science. His major research interests are quantum sensing, macroscopic quantum systems, and the interface of quantum physics and gravity. Dr. Pikovski's theoretical work shows novel applications and unique features of quantum physics, and outlines how their interplay with gravity can be probed in experiments.
